The purpose of Indiana's Driver Safety Program is to refresh your knowledge of state motor vehicle laws, review key defensive driving techniques, and enhance your awareness of traffic safety issues. You may participate in our BMV-approved Video Driver Safety Course voluntarily or to satisfy a court order/BMV requirement.

When you voluntarily complete our program, you will earn a four (4) point credit on your driving record. In addition, you may be eligible for an auto insurance discount (contact your insurer for more information). You may participate in our course once every three (3) years to maintain the point credit. Please remember that course completion does not actually remove a violation from your driving record.

If you are court-ordered or required by the BMV to complete a Driver Safety Program, you may participate in our Video Course. However, you may not participate if you were ordered to take a classroom course. Successful completion will fulfill your Indiana court or BMV requirement. Please remember that if you participate by court order, you must submit the certificate of completion to the court in person or by mail. In addition, it is your responsibility to pay all required court fees on time.

The Point System

The BMV assigns a point value to all moving violations based on their severity. Violations may be assigned values of two (2), four (4), six (6), or eight (8) points. These points remain active on your official Indiana driving record for two (2) years from the conviction date of the citation.

Here is a list of the most common violations and their point values:

1 - 15 mph over the limit:	2 points
16 - 25 mph over the limit:	4 points
26 - plus over limit:	6 points
Failure to use headlights:	2 points
No brake or signal lights:	2 points
Disregard stop/yield sign:	6 points
Fail to yield to emergency vehicle:	8 points
Improper U-turn:	4 points
Following too closely:	6 points
Unsafe lane movement:	4 points
Failure to yield:	6 points
Speed contest on road:	8 points
Improper MC headgear:	4 points
Improper MC passenger:	4 points
Driving while Suspended:	8 points
